Estate Agents Energy Saving Award Scheme

2021-05-18

In addition to the “5A qualities” (Adherence, Ability, Accountability, Advancement and Affinity) that a professional estate agent should possess, the Estate Agents Authority (“EAA”) also promotes another important value to the estate agency trade, and that is giving back to their communities.

With a view to encouraging estate agents to contribute to their own communities, the EAA has organised different corporate social responsibility (“CSR”) activities for licensees to participate in, such as the “Estate Agents Community Service Proposal Competition” and “My Home Hong Kong – Estate Agents Coastal Cleanup Day”. Both campaigns received positive responses and support from the trade and successfully improved the image of the trade.

To sustain the momentum, the EAA introduced another CSR campaign – the “Estate Agents Energy Saving Award Scheme” in April 2021. Recent research has shown that buildings in Hong Kong account for about 90% of the city’s electricity consumption, while over 60% of the carbon emissions are attributable to electricity generated for building-related energy consumption. Although the estate agency trade might not be a high electricity consumption industry, there are however over 7,000 estate agency shops in Hong Kong. The more estate agency shops reduce their daily energy consumption, the bigger is their contribution to the environment.

By providing different levels of recognition, the “Estate Agents Energy Saving Award Scheme” encourages estate agency shops to reduce their daily electricity usage. The awarded estate agency shops will be presented with a certificate and a window sticker with the award logo for shop display, so they can show the public their contribution to saving energy.

The Award Scheme is already open for online enrolment till 31 May 2021. I encourage all estate agency shops to take part in this meaningful campaign and show the public the positive image of the trade. More details of the Scheme can be found on: http://csr2021.eaa.org.hk
