Estate agents who make a misrepresentation to clients in the first-hand sales of residential properties will face disciplinary action by the Estate Agents Authority. Consider this case:
Estate agents must be careful to avoid any misleading information being given to a client about unauthorized building works at a property.
The EAA will organise a public seminar (conducted in Cantonese) on 10 March 2018. Admission is free and all are welcome. Click here to register
estate agents should not advertise a residential property at any price, rental or terms different from that instructed by the client concerned.
Estate agents should maintain high ethical standards and avoid any practice which may bring discredit or disrepute to their trade.
The price of a property may be affected if it is involved in legal proceedings. If estate agents know that a property is involved in legal proceedings, they should disclose this to their clients to protect their interests. If they fail to do so, they may be subjected to disciplinary actions by the Estate Agents Authority.
Estate agents leave themselves open to disciplinary action if they fail to deliver on incentives promised to clients.
(The seminar was conducted in Cantonese. Please refer to Chinese version.)
Estate agents should not behave in a way which may bring discredit and/or disrepute to the estate agency trade when chasing commissions.
Verifying information about a property before presenting it to a potential buyer is a cornerstone responsibility for an estate agent.
